I'm not really in a position to do much for the Solstice, but I'm sitting in a darkened room, with only the TV (The SF Ballet's Nutcracker is on at 9:00) and my laptop as non-natural light. Oh, yes, and the little red running light on the space heater. Otherwise, I have candles and one of those oil candles burning on my vanity. I'm going to set my alarm to try and wake up to see the sun rise, which I'm hoping will lift my spirits a bit.
After reading Hogfather for the umpteenth time, I'm letting a few philosophical notes sink in. One is, that humans need fantasy and belief in something to be human and to have something to keep them moving. I think that's why disappointment hits me so hard. I took a blow to my belief years ago and it's stuck with me. I want to believe that there is justice and mercy and hope in the world, which makes me cling to my fancies. It's irrational and stupid, but it helps.
In other news, I have lately found myself being inexplicably drawn to water symbolism. Not just water, but salt water. Me! St. Brighid and Hestia have been my patrons for ages. Why are Asherah, Stella Maris, La Sirene, Salacia and Aphrodite calling to me now? Curiouser and curiouser...
And here we go! Oooh, baby! 1915 World's Fair basis! Squee!
